This award was instituted in 1998 to commemorate our former Life Member Alan Irons. Alan joined the Association in 1970, and during his period with us served as 9th Honorary Treasurer from 1972 to 1980, 16th President from 1980 to 1988, Assistant Secretary from 1993 to 1995 and was a member of the Selection, Examination and Training Committees. He was awarded the 31st Life Membership of NDCUA in 1989. The encouragement award is presented to a member with three years or less experience with the Association. The award is determined by the Management Committee and awarded to the member who has displayed the appropriate skills to develop their umpiring career. Typically a member is ineligible if he has umpired First Grade.
